MoveOn CRM
MoveOn has long relied on a patchwork of third-party tools to manage its members, volunteers, and donors — many of them misaligned with the organization's deep commitment to member privacy. As an independent lead designer, I was brought in to establish design strategy and direction for a unified CRM built on MoveOn's own terms. Over six months, I designed the core architecture of the platform: volunteer management, finance and donation flows, and organizing tools — getting a complex, politically sensitive product off the ground.
Approach
Conducted UX reviews with key volunteer managers and subject matter experts to understand real-world workflows and pain points across the organization.
Designed role-based access flows to address MoveOn's stringent member privacy requirements, ensuring sensitive data was protected at every permission level.
Translated a fragmented multi-tool ecosystem into a unified design strategy and core interaction patterns, ready for development handoff.
Collaborated cross-functionally with MoveOn stakeholders, developers, QA engineers, and PMs to align design decisions with technical and organizational constraints.
A consolidation of disparate tools into a single, privacy-first platform — with foundational volunteer management, donations, and organizing flows designed and handed off within six months.
